Background
Harm reduction is the philosophy and practice of respectfully collaborating with people to assist any positive change as a person defines it for her/himself. It begins where the person is with no biases or condemnation for the person’s chosen lifestyle. People do not respond well to judgment and condemnation. Effective methods for getting people to make healthier choices start with understanding the personal and cultural aspects of each individual’s decision-making and finding small positive ways to move forward.
