We don’t always have on-site opportunities for large groups of volunteers, but we do
have ways you can help us!
One way is to volunteer at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. By volunteering
on our behalf, you can earn points for The Night Ministry and reduce the cost
of food we receive from this agency.
You group will help inspect, sort, and repack non-perishable food, fresh fruits
and vegetables, dairy products, fresh and frozen meats, poultry, and fish that
are then distributed to a network of 600 pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters
(including our Open Door Youth Shelters) across Cook County. And you’ll
have
a great time!
If we don’t have any volunteer opportunities that work for your group,
please contact the Greater Chicago Food Depository to make arrangements so that The Night Ministry
gets credit for your work. Please send an email to David Weasley to let him know if your group has scheduled a date so that we can make sure we get credit.
After a group works, we're notified of the credits we'll receive from the work your group did. These credits will go into our food account for our youth housing programs. The credits allow us to purchase food for $.07 - $.09 per pound.
