All residents of our Open Door Youth Shelter programs eat a hot dinner together each night at 6 pm. One or two residents and on-duty staff cook dinner together, according to a menu that has been drawn up for the week. Learning to make dinner is one of the ways we help teach residents life skills.
The kids who are receiving support and services in our three youth housing programs work hard all day. It is a nice treat when other people step in to show they care by providing or preparing dinner for our residents. Many people are able to enjoy a dinner out at a friend’s or at a restaurant, so we look to volunteers to help us provide special dinners.
