What is a ward of the state?
In Illinois, the state may assume responsibility for the care of children whose family are absent or unable to care for them. The Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) manages programs for the state’s wards. The Night Ministry does not serve wards of the State.

What is your approach to working with youth?
We use a youth development approach. Staff empower youth to develop a sense of competence, usefulness, control over their future, and belonging to a community and having relationships with caring adults, thereby strengthening the youth’s ability to function in his or her family relationships.
