Peter Landon of Landon Architects, Ltd. (now Landon Bone) designed the renovation of this three-story, 7,296 square foot former apartment building which first opened as our120-Day Interim Housing Program in October, 1992.

In 1993, the building won an Excellence in Architecture Award ("Special Recognition for Interior Architecture of Open Door Youth Shelter") from AIA Chicago, a Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture.

After the Interim Program moved to Open Door Youth Shelter - West Town in 2007, we repainted and reorganized the space so we could open our Response-Ability Pregnant and Parenting Program (RAPPP) shelter component.

The basement holds laundry facility and storage. The first floor houses a meeting room and Youth Outreach Team offices. RAPPP operates on the second & third floors. The building has a grassy backyard where in summer we hold BBQs for the residents, and it serves as a safe place to hang outside.

The Lakeview neighborhood offers 24-hour public transporation, social service agencies, and public high schools.
