Our Response-Ability Pregnant and Parenting Program provides intensive supportive services through community-based programming and a shelter serving only pregnant minors and/or parenting minors who are also homeless or precariously housed.
Our Open Door Youth Shelter - Lakeview is an 8-bed, 8-crib 120-day interim shelter and supportive services program for homeless pregnant or parenting teen moms, ages 14-18. Shelter and Community-based staff work with each youth on issues impacting that client’s life and well being. The Response-Ability Pregnant & Parenting Program at Open Door Youth Shelter – Lakeview takes residents on a first come, first served basis. All residents are teen moms, ages 14-18, who are pregnant/parenting and homeless or runaway.
Once a teen mom enters the shelter, she meets with a case manager. During an initial assessment appointment, they work together to identify the client’s strengths and areas of need, creating a case plan with specific services.
Our community-based team provides social services to tenuously housed pregnant or parenting teens, ages 13-18, in their community (home, school, or other locations.)
Staff will also connect each client to prenatal, post delivery, and well baby care health services. Youth can move between community-based and shelter services as needed. Program goals include:
- strengthening the resources in the youth’s family/support systems
- reducing incidence of homelessness for the youth
- supporting youth to delay subsequent pregnancies
- enhancing the well-being of teen mothers, young fathers, their infants, and their families.
