Group programs give youth the chance to exercise leadership. Group experiences
build self-confidence and practical knowledge, helping youth grow into healthier,
happier, more self-sufficient adults.
Community Services
Each resident of our Transitional Living Program is required to complete four hours of community service each month to foster a sense of giving back. Once a month, all residents participate in a mandatory group volunteer activity. Independent Living Coaches identify more than 20 different volunteer opportunities for youth to choose from each month, including activities with Chicago Cares, Greater Chicago Food Depository, and Howard Brown’s Brown Elephant Resale Shop.
Stress Busters
Facilitated by a licensed therapist from the Counseling Center of Lakeview, this weekly group gives residents a place to talk about and find health ways to cope with the stresses and anxieties of being homeless while transitioning to adulthood in a community environment. Being able to provide on-site mental health services
Life Skills
Two sessions of life skills class are conducted each week. The goal is to provide education and hands-on training with basics such as cooking, cleaning, decision-making, goal setting, health and wellness, budgeting, career planning, communication skills, and more.
Breakfast Club
This mandatory weekly house meeting provides a forum for residents and staff to discuss concerns, activity reminders, case management updates, recognition reports. Residents alternate taking, typing, and distributing minutes from this meeting.
