Many of the youth who become residents in the Transitional Living Program have become homeless due to their family’s economic situation – loss of employment, poverty, overcrowding – or a parent’s mental illness or substance abuse. Some of our residents have been kicked out due to issues over their sexual orientation or a pregnancy.
Many of the residents maintain some contact with their family or extended family, in spite of strained relationships.
The average age of a resident in this program is 19, and the youth have, on average, been homeless for a minimum of 12 months.
