Group programs give youth the chance to exercise leadership. Group experiences
build self-confidence and practical knowledge, helping youth grow into healthier,
happier, more self-sufficient adults.
Safer Sex Education
Youth learn about and discuss how HIV, AIDS, and STDs (sexually transmitted
diseases) are contracted and prevention methods, respecting other sexual orientations, and more.
Relationship Group
Youth discuss healthy relationships and boundaries - what they are and how
to establish them.
Life Skills Apartment Club
This group focuses on life skills. Topics include budgeting, smart shopping,
how to establish and maintain credit, housekeeping, positive stress management,
and dealing with landlords.
Poetry Group
Youth read, write, discuss poetry, perform spoken word, rap etc. Sometimes
guest speakers/poets make presentations.
Job Skills Group
Chicago Cares volunteers help youth with resumes, job interviewing skills, dressing for interviews, mock job interviews, how to transfer their skills to the job market and more.
Expressive Arts
Blue Sky Inn leads youth in creative expression through collage-making, painting, drawing, and other medias.
Parenting Class
This curriculum enables youth to discuss parenting issues and learn parenting
skills from trained leaders.
Youth Advisory Board
Youth from our Interim Program and our Transitional Living Program solicit feedback from other residents about the programs and work with volunteers to address those concerns with program staff.
