Each year, our 120-Day Interim Program at Open Door Youth Shelter - West Town houses about 200 youth, and their babies
and toddlers. The Night Ministry's youth housing programs are the only
programs in Chicago that accept pregnant and parenting youth as young as 14
years of age.
Our Interim
Program has 16 beds open to homeless youth, ages 14-20, who are not wards of the state
and
5 cribs
for
children.
It is
staffed
24 hours a day,
365 days a year.
Youth are admitted on a first come, first served basis.
Residents pay no fee, but must follow rules and work toward goals they set
with their Case Manager.
Staff and volunteers build relationships with residents by providing housing
and supportive services with the goal of self-sufficiency. Services are customized
to the needs of each resident
Teens under 18 must receive permission from a parent or guardian to stay longer
than 24 hours. With permission, they can stay up to 21 days, with extensions
possible in special circumstances.
Youth older than 18 can stay up to 120 days. The average stay is 40 days.
Residents attend required support and educational groups. They may participate
in outings and cultural activities to help keep their spirits up.
